These are brand names of dapoxetine. For example, is a registered trademark of Berlin-Chemie AG, an Italian-German concern, which develops, manufactures and distributes pharmaceutical products. Priligy comes in two dosages: 30 mg and 60 mg. It is available in Europe with a doctor’s prescription. Vriligy is an Indian generic version of dapoxetine, which is offered by web shops in many countries worldwide.
Other Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors
As we noted, dapoxetine is the only approved treatment for premature ejaculation (although in not all countries). However, doctors say that other selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) may also be helpful. SSRIs are a young group of antidepressants, they have emerged as opposed to tricyclics, drugs that perform their task but have numerous side effects.
So, are these medications effective for PE? Scientists Eassa and El-Shazly reported that fluoxetine (Prozac) in 25, 50 and 100 mg tablet strength was efficient to handle early ejaculation. It remarkably increased IELT (intravaginal ejaculation latency time).
Other medicines that may treat the condition:
- Paroxetine (Paxil). This drug has the main property – it activates serotonin neurons, which block anxiety. This drug was developed and patented by the Danish company A/S Ferrosan. However, recently, due to the expiration of patent protection terms, the drug migrated to the category of generics. Delayed ejaculation is its side effect; however, such a feature may be therapeutically used for PE. - Sertraline (Zoloft). A few years ago, sertraline was compared with other drugs for depression and recognized as one of the most efficient (even more effective than Prozac). This medication works better with severe depressive disorder than with a milder one. As for its functioning in terms of treating ejaculatory disorders, according to C.G. McMahon, Sertraline is an effective and reasonably well tolerated oral pill PE with better ejaculatory control usually occurring within 7-14 days of intake.
Clomipramine (Anafranil) – Tricyclic Antidepressant
Anafranil is a tricyclic antidepressant with an old history (it was invented in 1960s). It is considered a safe medication among tricyclics, but risks of adverse reactions may be higher than that of SSRIs.
As reported by S.M. Haensel et al., clomipramine (25mg as needed) efficiently improved ejaculatory latency in males with PE, however, the therapy was ineffective in patients suffering both from PE and ED. However, it may be not simple to use these medications simply to treat fast ejaculation, because they are dispensed to males with erection disorders.
