Until recently, women suffering from sexual arousal disorders were virtually devoid of an effective means to eliminate this annoying problem. Manufacturers of pharmaceuticals saw this gap and began to develop and introduce specialty drugs. As the path was thorny feminist associations had to involve. As a result, two drugs appeared on the market: flibanserin and female Viagra based on the usual sildenafil. This article will discuss mainly pink Viagra (as it turned out to be more popular) and its differences from the male version of the drug.
Pink and Blue Viagra – What’s the Difference?
A few words about female Viagra. It does not affect hormone levels and provides an exclusively local effect. The tablet improves blood circulation in the genital area, which leads to increased excitability of the clitoris, improved lubrication inside the vagina and other effects that positively affect the onset and maintenance of a sufficient level of sexual arousal.
This drug contains the same active ingredient as the male version, however the list of additional ingredients is different.
Another difference is associated with physiological and anatomical features of the female and male organisms. In men, Viagra leads to better blood supply to the corpora cavernosa and in women, Lovegra (or Pink Viagra) improves blood supply to the clitoris and other female organs.
The effect of female Viagra is not cooked up. There have been conducted several studies confirming the effectiveness of sildenafil in women suffering from sexual dysfunctions. In addition, doctors sometimes prescribe sildenafil-based drugs.
Side Effects and Contraindications
Both drugs described above have a similar list of side effects. They can cause headache, redness of the face and other parts of the body, disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, dizziness, nausea, muscle pain, etc. The only thing they cannot cause as a side effect in women is priapism since it is a painful and prolonged penile erection for more 4 hours (obviously, females don’t have this organ). As for contraindications, they are similar but not identical. Both medicines should not be taken by minors, people who take nitrates, have some hereditary diseases and have suffered a serious cardiovascular event recently.
Female Viagra cannot be taken by women expecting a baby or breastfeeding, and a male tablet may be contraindicated to patients with anatomical deformities of penis.
Flibanserin and Viagra
Flibanserin has a completely distinctive mechanism of action; it affects serotonin and dopamine receptors in the brain and has no local effect, as opposed to sildenafil. It also has a specific indication – treatment of premenopausal hypolibidemia. The incidence of side effects after taking Flibanserin is quite high, in addition, the use of alcoholic beverages while taking this medication can lead to a significant decrease in blood pressure, which may explain the low number of prescriptions issued for the purchase of Addyi (brand name of flibanserin) in recent years.
